I am very keen to pass on my love of craft to B. He absolutely adores the messy stuff. We don't do much painting in winter as he makes so much mess that in summer I just put him outside with an easel and let him go for it. I then use the paintings as wrapping paper. We both think the messier the better!!
Recently we have started some sewing. He loves to "help" when I use the sewing machine but I thought some hand sewing would be a good skill for him to learn. So over the last few weeks we have been working on this:
The process is quite simple. I cut a piece of hessian with and drew a simple picture on it - of course B had to have a car! He uses a knitting needle and tapestry wool and has done quite well. It has taken a number of sessions as his attention span for this is quite short and he makes mistakes which are okay or easily rectified. I have had quite a bit of input to help him complete it but I would expect that this will decrease as his skills improve.
So this is our finished product.
I had the ends of the wool on the side with the drawing so that when you turn it over you get a clear picture without the original drawing.
This is a perfect way to craft together during cold and wet winter days like today. Another activity I will try soon is finger knitting.

DeleteYou're amazing Jode...seriously you really are. I would love to get involved in something like this, however have absolutely NO idea... So what I was thinking is that you have an amazing gift with craft, and are extremely patient with children, so Jode, I have an idea for you... Why don't you set up a childrens craft sessions where kids and their Mums (or Dads) can come to...say once a week and the kids and Mums can learn to... like me, who has zero idea but would love to learn. You see, I have a creative bone in my body when it comes to interior design & decorating, which is why I'll be studying for a degree in Interior Design/Decorating next year, but I would like to learn all the fun creative stuff to do with Seth. Seth and I would be love to be your first client... There you go, another thought...you could do one on one sessions with a Mum and Child, and/or offer group sessions. Seriously Jode, you could make some extra CASH for yourself doing something you love doing. That's what we'd all love wouldn't it, get paid for doing something that comes easy to us and that we love doing with a passion. Oh yeah, well done Ben on the KIA Car, it looks just like my KIA car. I admire you Jode. Anyway have a think about the idea and let me know if you want your first client...
